Ecological Restoration and Transformation of Maoming Oil Shale Mining Area: Experience and Inspirations

Oil shale is a kind of unconventional energy resource with abundant reserves, but its exploitation has continuous negative impact on the environment, which hindered research and oil under international environmental consensus issues such as climate change. Therefore, more attention should be paid to problems side effect exploitation. With combination field research, literature collection, tracking survey, open-pit management process in Maoming, Guangdong, China, been investigated, development transformation model subsequently refined summarized. The results show that Maoming mine area gone through four main stages: pre-exploitation stage, large-scale utilization restoration green stage. Through pit treatment, vegetation restoration, ecological park construction, tourism development, abandoned transformed into an combining ecosystem, tourism, cultural resources. In this process, achieved from rough extraction environment-friendly sustainable growth mode. As successful case world, experience can function reference for smooth other mines developing countries.
